Details on the Basepump HB 1000 [toc]

So you already have a primary sump pump, but maybe you are worried about the primary system not being able to accommodate a sudden increase in water or perhaps you have concerns about the electricity going out during a storm?

A backup, water powered, a sump pump is exactly what you need! As long as you are connected to the city (county) water due to well water needing electricity to function…

The Basepump HB 1000 is a water powered backup sump pump that is quite expensive when compared to other similar products.

One factor that increases its price is the fact that it is marketed as the fastest pumping rates in the industry with minimal moving parts, arguing that minimal maintenance will be necessary.

This backup sump pump also has a battery powered alarm to alert you of excessively high water in the system.

A unique feature of the Basepump brand is that their backup sump pumps do not need to be set within the basin alongside your primary sump pump but can be set up in your rafters or within the ceiling.

This model also has a hydraulic float system which allows the backup sump pump to totally empty the basin every time it runs.

Could This Backup Sump Pump Be for You?

If you have access to your local water supply, not just well water, this could definitely be a product for you!

Prior to purchasing though, you should check your water flow and make sure that you have enough water pressure to fully flush out the sump water, i.e. enough pressure to make the pump work.

You will also need to be sure that you have a ¾ inch water supply line as anything smaller will not allow enough water, or pressure, for the pump to work.

The HB 1000 is a very powerful backup sump pump, therefore it needs a lot of water pressure to work. If you do not need this strong of a system, perhaps you should look into the Basepump HB 750.

Basepump HB 1000 Testimonials

Living at the bottom of a hill means I absolutely have to have a backup sump pump. The prior homeowner purchased this model and it kept running even when it wasn’t necessary. The only reason I noticed this was due to our meter guy letting us know we were using twice as much city water as we normally do. If you purchase this, I would highly recommend getting an alarm in case it quits working properly.

I tried using a battery backup pump for years and a major problem I had with all of them was the cost of the batteries. Even with the more expensive pumps, I still had battery issues. I recommend hiring a professional to do the installation unless you have some prior experience with basic plumbing. Additionally, I think it’s important to note that the float is pretty large compared to other pumps, so you will want to make sure there is enough room in your basin for it.

Popular Questions and Their Answers

Question: How far out will this pump send the sump water?

Answer: You never really need to be concerned about horizontal output, more so vertical. This backup sump pump has been known to be fine for up to 13 feet vertically and over 60 feet horizontally.

Question: Without having to do the outdoor water pressure testing, of filling a 5-gallon bucket in less than 40 seconds, what is the necessary water pressure needed for this pump?

Answer: The manufacturer recommends a minimum of 40 psi.

Question: Due to this being a backup sump pump system, will anything need to be checked regularly?

Answer: A couple things should be checked every couple of months or prior to a time when you expect excessive water, like the rainy season. An easy way to check that the pump is working, in general, is simply to unplug your main sump pump and see if the Basepump HB 1000 starts to work. You will also want to check the 9-volt battery on the alarm as that will need replacing occasionally.
